This year, Foundation Communities has been moving families into Lakeline Station Apartments, located in far north Austin near RM 620 and US-183. The 150-unit community is affordable, with one, two, and three-bedroom apartments priced from $380 to $1,120 depending on income. Foundation Communities received $3 million in funding from the 2013 affordable housing bonds to help build Lakeline, which was leveraged through the Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program.

Families at Lakeline Station enjoy a wide range of amenities, including a free onsite learning center for children and close proximity to public transportation. One of the families benefiting from those amenities is Lulee Guerrero and her three children. Once homeless, the Guerreros spent two years living in a group setting at the Texas Baptist Children’s Home in Round Rock. Lulee has been pursuing career training at Austin Community College and says she doesn’t know how she could have balanced that and motherhood without assistance from Children at Heart Ministries, Capital IDEA, The Texas Workforce Commission, and Texas Health and Human Services.

Now at Lakeline Station, Lulee and her children are on track for success, as we see in this Keep Austin Affordable video feature.
