HousingWorks Austin would like to express our sincere thanks to Mayor Steve Adler for his leadership in the efforts to find homes for homeless veterans in Austin, in partnership with several Austin nonprofits and government agencies. Here’s the latest on Housing Heroes Austin.

• At the beginning of the year, there were 234 homeless veterans in Austin.
• By Veterans Day, that number was down to 118 and since then, the an additional 40 leases were secured for homeless vets. Only 78 more to go and the hope is those veterans will have housing by the end of this year.
• Since Veterans Day, the Housing Heroes Austin Fund has raised an incredible $42,174.47 to help mitigate risk and unforeseen costs of the landlords. If you have an apartment you would like to lease to a homeless veteran or you would like to contribute click here.
