Ernesto Resto’s love for technology started as a child in an unusual way, through punishment. Forced by his father to read a book Ernest chose the “T” encyclopedia. That’s where he learned about the many ways technology touched our lives. Ernesto became a whiz at repairing televisions and computers, but it didn’t bring in much money. Five year ago, Ernesto moved to Austin with his wife and son because he thought a tech company was going to hire him. They didn’t. Faced with a housing crisis, the Resto’s turned to the Housing Authority of the City of Austin.(HACA).

For years, HACA has been building partnerships with tech companies and Austin Community College to help its residents gain more access to and knowledge about technology. The Resto’s moved into Meadowbrook Apartments and that’s where Ernesto found the career opportunities he needed. Watch his Keep Austin Affordable video feature below.
