Home > News > City Council Adopts New Policies to Create More Affordable Housing

It was an incredible night (and early morning!) at City Council. Thanks to our forward-thinking policy makers, we have three additional Homestead Preservation Districts. We increased funding going into the Housing Trust Fund, representing a substantial, sustainable, and dedicated revenue stream for affordable housing. Finally, we established the first Tax Increment Revitalization Zone (TIRZ) in Homestead Preservation District A (central East Austin). The TIRZ funds will be invested in affordable housing (both rental and ownership) in gentrifying (or already gentrified) areas. Thank you, Austin City Council, for using every “tool in the toolbox” to address our affordability crisis.
