Much of the homelessness in our country is related to mental illness. This is a particularly disturbing problem among our veterans who have been placed in some very traumatic situations. Fortunately, there are programs like Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) and nonprofits who are working to find affordable housing for homeless vets.

In this Keep Austin Affordable video feature, we meet Roger Galindo, a former Marine. PTSD and other mental issues devastated his life and left him living out of his car. In this Keep Austin Affordable Video feature, find out why he has a new home and a new outlook on life thanks to Austin nonprofit Green Doors. He now has his own apartment at Green Doors’ affordable complex Treaty Oaks, which was renovated with $1.3 million from the 2006 affordable housing bonds and the Housing Trust Fund.
